KUCHING: Sixteen beauties from the first batch of pre-selected participants auditioned for the Miss Cultural Harvest Festival finalists this year at The Club, Riverside Majestic Hotel here, yesterday.
The participants were given 10 minutes to showcase their cat walking, singing, and dancing talents.
The annual beauty pageant is organised by Sarawak Cultural Village (SCV) as one of the programmes for Sarawak Harvest and Folklore Festival 2020, with the support of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture.
For this year’s competition, winner of ethnic beauty pageant Miss Cultural Harvest Festival will walk away with cash prizes, crown, sash and many other subsidiary prizes.
In a press release, festival director Zaini Zainuddin said the competition this year will be more competitive as the main committee of Sarawak Harvest Folklore Festival (SHFF) has received more talented, academically qualified and confident contestants than previous years.
Present during audition were Tamira Lallemand, the winner of Miss Cultural Harvest Festival last year; and Miss Cultural Harvest Festival beauty pageant coach, Ahmad Tarmizi. Both were there to judge the contestants.
Tamira said when she evaluates the participants she wants to focus on natural talent and mannerisms.
“I want them to be themselves,” she said.
The grand finale of Miss Cultural Harvest Festival will be held on April 17 at Sarawak Cultural Village in conjunction with Sarawak Harvest and Folklore Festival that will be held for three days and two nights, from April 17 to 19.
The grand final will also feature live staging of Bidayuh folklore ‘Raja Sebrah and The Golden Bamboo’ and Sape World Concert and Workshops.
