KUCHING: Aspirants to this year’s Miss Grand Malaysia have been advised to prepare well as the contest will be tough and the winner will represent Malaysia at the international-level.

“I hope whoever wins will be prepared for what is coming. She has to prepare mentally and physically as this year’s Miss Grand International will be held in Venezuela. I am giving this advice because I have been through the experience,” said Miss Grand Malaysia 2019, Mel Dequanne Abar

Fondly called Dequeen by her fans, Mel spoke to New Sarawak Tribune after attending Miss Grand Lundu 2020 coronation night at Penview Convention Centre (PCC), Demak last Saturday.

As the reigning Miss Grand Malaysia 2019, she was asked on what she has been up to. She said, “I am still continuing my preparations even though I competed in the Miss Grand International in October last year.

“After that, I continue with my reign by helping out with charity work, getting to know more people and exploring more beauty pageants in the country and keeping track of what I have done for the community.”

As one of the judges during the Miss Grand Lundu 2020 coronation night, she said the event was satisfying, especially with the segments and their preparations.

“I can tell that the finalists had really worked hard, which is why I told them that it is alright if they don’t get through. It’s more than just winning; it’s about the experience and what they will face in life in future,” she said.
