KUCHING: Two beauty queens will bring more colour to the Betong divisional level Gawai Dayak parade this Saturday.
And for the first time the Kadazan Dusun Cultural Association (KDCA) from Sabah will also be making an appearance at the parade which is expected to draw close to 2,000 people from all walks of life.
Organising chairman Moris Nayup said this would be among the main attractions of the parade.
“People in Betong can meet Miss Malaysia 2022, Wenanita Anggang, and Miss Malaysia 2018, Larissa Ping.
“Among other interesting things, for the first time we have invited KDCA in conjunction with National Unity Week in the hope of promoting the culture of both regions, namely Sabah and Sarawak.
“I am confident that this year’s Gawai Dayak parade will be more lively and all are invited to attend,” Moris said yesterday.
Kumang Gawai Betong 2023, Lorna Lamban Walter, is also expected to attend, in addition to the Sarawak Tourism Federation (STF).
As in previous years the parade offers lucrative prizes, the main one being RM10,000 for the overall winner.
Previously it was won by SMK St Augustine.
