SEREMBU assemblyman Miro Simuh has taken initiative to develop group beef cattle fields in Kpg Merembeh, Bau as part of the farm community project in Sarawak.
He stated that over 60 acres of native customary land (NCR) owned by villagers had been cleared and planted with napier grass as part of the preparation for the cattle’s food.
The project also involved 27 participants.
“This project started because we wanted to be one of the net exporters of food supplies in this region.
“The former Minister for Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development cum Deputy Premier also announced an additional RM500,000 allocation for the development shed and related facilities but to this day, we have not received the allocation.
“That being said, I urged that this project can be given immediate attention so that we can rely less on imported meat,” he said.
Miro said this when debating on the motion of appreciation for the TYT’s address on the third day of the 19th State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting today.
The Serembu assemblyman also suggested that the Ministry of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development provide at least one group farming project in every constituency in Sarawak and that each project be supervised by either the assemblyman or assemblywoman.
“This is to ensure that the project will be successful and can be identified by the assemblyman/assemblywoman.
“If the projects succeed, I believe, we can decrease our level of dependency on food imports,” he added.
Touching on the upcoming “boutique airline”, Miro said it would be beneficial to the tourism industry.
“We can choose any destination outside Malaysia to be directly connected to Sarawak, and more positive effects can be seen with this airline company,” he added.
