SIBU: Penghulu Andrewson Ngalai Asom, the singer and original creator of the song ‘Bekikis Bulu Betis,’ was dismayed by a company’s unauthorised recording and reproduction of the song’s video clip, which was subsequently uploaded on social media.
Ngalai stated that the company did not seek his permission beforehand.
“I’ve decided to take action. I filed a police report regarding this matter at the Stapang Police Station on May 3,” he said in a statement yesterday.
Expressing disappointment, he highlighted that many people were exploiting his song.
“It’s disheartening because as the song’s rightful owner, I haven’t benefited, while those engaged in the piracy of the record made profit. This situation has left me unsettled,” he said.
Ngalai hopes the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Arts will address the individuals uploading the song without permission.
“I never authorised any company or individual to re-record my song. I’ve instructed my lawyer to facilitate its removal from social media,” he added.
He mentioned that his lawyer would investigate and get the parties involved to be responsible.
“They’ll be held accountable under the Copyright Act. Failure to act on this would condone piracy. I urge those involved to remove all unauthorised recordings from social media, or face legal consequences,” he pointed out.
