KUCHING: The Belgium Ambassador to Malaysia Pascal H. Gregory paid a courtesy call on Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah at the new State Legislative Assembly (DUN) complex today.
Also present were senior director of the Port of Antwerp- Bruges International in Belgium Mario Lievens, its senior consultant Michiel Dubos, Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Ports Development (MIPD) Datuk Majang Renggie and the ministry’s permanent secretary Safri Zainudin.
According to Safri, Uggah and Pascal had a discussion on possible collaboration between the Antwerp-Bruges International Port and Kuching Port.
“The Belgium Port is collaborating as well as managing ports in Africa, Brazil and Abu Dhabi among others.
“Antwerp-Bruges International is Europe’s largest export port and one of the leading container ports in Europe.
“It’s central location, extensive connections with global markets and a large part of the European hinterland combined with an excellent infrastructure make the port an attractive choice for business opportunities.
“It is also the energy gateway to Europe as a ‘green port,” he added.
By 2028, it plans to have the capacity to receive the first green hydrogen molecules on its platform.
Towards this end, it is working to expand terminal capacity for existing and new hydrogen carriers at its port sites.
