KUCHING: The Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) is supporting a food supplier and caterer group which is setting up another new food court at Aiman Mall Kota Samarahan.

MPKS chairman Datuk Peter Minos said the new food court, Belly Cafeteria Food Street will offer affordable food and drinks especially for many struggling university students.

He said a lunch and dinner meal will cost not more than RM10 each because students cannot afford something that is costlier.

“All of them are on a shoe string budget, so MPKS feels duty bound to help them out. We are supporting Belly Cafeteria on the new food court which can cater up to 500 students per seating.

“It will be a neat, clean and well decorated food court called Belly Cafeteria Food Street,” he said yesterday.

Minos pointed out that there will also be places for many local handicrafts, cultural items and artifacts which will attract visitors and tourists.

He said the new food court is open to all and non-students can patronise for the higher priced food and drinks.

“Special items like fresh seafood both steamed and roasted will be served with many special and exotic Samarahan dishes to be available.

“This way, people can be reminded of the plentiful of fresh seafood from Samarahan seashores and rivers like ikan terubok, lobsters and bamboo clams among others. Of course, not forgetting the many types of fruits and vegetables in the area,” he said.

Besides university students, Minos said visitors and tourists will also be pleased with the new food court.

“The Belly Cafeteria’s owner, Hoon has years of experience in the food industry in Singapore. He will be replicating things from there at the new food court. The food court should be open to the public by May this year,” he added.
