KUCHING: The organisers of this year’s Pesta Benak, popularly known as the Benak Regatta, are elated to announce that they have received an impressive total of 31 entries for the boat racing categories.

The committee, headed by Sri Aman Division Land and Survey superintendent Michealson Nyisin, is thrilled with the overwhelming response and anticipates more teams to join.

The Benak Run, scheduled to inaugurate the festival on Sept 17, has already garnered immense enthusiasm, with approximately 950 participants already confirmed as of July 31.

The Sokanjaya Club and Public Works Department (JKR) Sri Aman Division are jointly overseeing the event with a target of reaching 1,500 participants by the registration closing date on Aug 15, as revealed by Michealson on Wednesday (Aug 2).

“For those who wish to partake in the festivities, there is still an opportunity. The Pesta Benak will grace the scenic Batang Lupar waterfront in Sri Aman, from Sept 29 to Oct 1. Entries will be accepted until Aug 31,” he added.
