MARUDI: Benerang 4 was crowned “Raja Sungai Batang Baram” (King of Baram River) at the Baram Regatta 2023 here today, taking home a cash prize of RM10,000 and the championship trophy.
With their victory, they defeated the defending team, Tedung Melancar 8, which secured the second position and a cash prize of RM8,000, after a fiercely contested race.
For the record, Tedung Melancar 8 had won the Raja Sungai title twice in previous Baram Regatta editions.
Earlier, Benerang 4 had also clinched the Premier Sarawak Cup, along with a cash prize of RM10,000.
Finishing in the next position was Anek Murai 2, who received RM6,000.
Meanwhile, three other teams received consolation prizes: Puteri Salju Sakti (RM4,000), Merpati Sakti (RM3,000), and Nagasaki Mulu (RM2,000).
The prizes were presented by Deputy Minister in the Premier of Sarawak’s Department (Labour, Immigration and Project Monitoring) Datuk Gerawat Gala, Baram MP Datuk Anyie Ngau, and Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau.
