KUCHING: It is now all up to the leadership of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) to determine whether Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) should nominate its candidate in the 12the Sarawak election.
Prime Minister and Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said he would leave it to the state leaders to decide on the next move.
“Whatever it is, we will discuss… (That) I will leave it to Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg and the state leadership to make the decision.
“Therefore, I do not want to comment further on that. It will depend on when there is a right time, we will try to discuss that.
“Any decision that we want to make, we are allies in the party that fight based on the same understanding. So, the most important thing is to get the strong support from the voters,” he told a press conference after visiting Sarawak General Hospital’s (SGH) new Day Care Centre here today (April 2).
He said this was important so that the state government could be reshaped to possibly win more seats.
“If possible, to have a landslide victory. And I expect that because of the efforts made by the chief minister and the leaders in the state Cabinet as well as in the GPS who have worked hard.
“Whatever the situation is, the party from Bersatu, Parti Islam Se-Malaysia (PAS) and Perikatan Nasional (PN) will give all of our fullest support. This is important, no division.
“Be it there be a seat or no seat, it is a secondary issue. What is important is that we want to ensure a big win for the GPS in Sarawak,” he said.
In the meantime, Muhyiddin welcomed the recent statement about PAS which called on Muslim organisations to defend the PN government.
“Yes, PAS is our partner in PN. They are the founding partner. We are united, and we have already established cooperation.
“But, what is important for us as the ruling coalition is to have the support of all communities,” he said.
He said what was important was that as a party that supported the struggles of the country, it must get the support from all, regardless of their background.
“It is important that the parties represent all the races and religion. It is not about Malays,” said Muhyiddin.
Also present were Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, Deputy Rural Development Minister Datuk Henry Sum Agong, Minister of Works Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, Minister of Local Government and Housing Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian, and State Health director Dr Chin Zin Hing.
