KUCHING : Kuching Skills College and Miri Technical Skills College held their first ever joint graduation ceremony at the Pullman Hotel here yesterday (Feb 23)
The graduation ceremony was supposed to be held in 2020 but was postponed because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
New Sarawak Tribune interviewed three best students from three courses.
Abang Rohaizad Abang Rammand, who received the Best Student Award in Diploma in Professional Cookery Studies, expressed his happiness at receiving the award.
He will turn 24 in three days’ time.
Currently, Abang Rohaizad is working as a manager at Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) in Mydin Vista Tunku in Petra Jaya
He advised students to be confident in all that they do and face challenges head bravely.
Another recipient of the Best Student Award is Veronica Caya Henry, who hails from Sibu.
She did not expect to be awarded the Best Student Award in Professional Food and Beverage Service when receiving her diploma.
“I have been working as an assistant supervisor at Rock Road Seafood Restaurant for 4 years now.
“After my practical, I immediately worked there and I still do,” she told the reporters after the graduation ceremony.
She advised her younger peers who were currently studying to accept the challenges and to be patient in life.
Hazel Sylvester, who graduated with a Diploma in Industrial Automation Engineering at 22 years old, was speechless after finding out she was awarded Best Student.
Hazel now works in Miri as a clerk. She is of Melanau and Kelabit ethnicity.
She plans to further her studies one day and encourages her fellow friends and juniors at the college to work hard, believe in themselves and to do their utmost best.
