KUCHING: The curtains closed on a triumphant note as the Borneo Energy Transition Conference (BETC) 2024 ended, leaving delegates brimming with anticipation for the next conference two years from now.  

During the closing ceremony at the Riverside Majestic Hotel here yesterday (Feb 27), SEDC Energy (SEDCE) chief executive officer (CEO) Robert Hardin, and Malaysia Rating Corporation (MARC) Group CEO Datuk Jamaludin Nasir co-organisers of the conference unveiled plans for BETC 2026, inviting delegates to reconvene in two years.

Reflecting on the achievements of BETC 2024, Hardin expressed his pride in the collaborative efforts that propelled the conference forward.

“As we conclude BETC 2024, I’m proud of the strides we made together, so let’s continue pushing boundaries and shaping the future of new energy, and I hope to see all of you in BETC 2026,” he said.

The two-day conference, held on Feb 26 to 27, witnessed the forging of pivotal agreements aimed at unlocking the potential of new energy sources.

Highlights included the Sarawak Hydrogen Hub agreement with Gentari Sdn Bhd, the Joint Development Agreement with Samsung Engineering, Lotte Chemical, and Korea National Oil Corporation (KNOC), as well as collaboration with Sarawak Metro.

The agreements highlighted a shared commitment to innovation and sustainability in the energy sector.

Hardin and Nasir thanked sponsors for their unwavering support, acknowledging their invaluable contribution to the success of BETC 2024.

“BETC 2024 marked a pivotal moment in advancing the new energy sector, featuring insightful discussions led by eight distinguished speakers and six panellists.

“Their contributions enriched understanding and paved the way for innovative solutions,” Hardin said.

Acknowledging the dedication of the organising team, Hardin commended SEDC Energy and MARC teams for their collaborative efforts in bringing the conference to fruition within a tight timeframe.

“Despite organising the conference in less than two months, the team successfully pulled off the event,” he noted.

The announcement of BETC 2026 reflects the state’s ongoing commitment to bolstering the new energy sector and fostering collaboration among stakeholders.
