SARATOK: The Sarawak Government Pensioners Association (PPKS) has been urged to remind its members about the dangers of non-existent investment schemes and online scams.
Kalaka assemblyman Mohamad Duri said increasingly active syndicates often target pensioners as their victims.
“I think this is a serious issue that should be given attention by everyone.
“For example, just a few days ago, a pensioner lost RM540,000 after being deceived by a fake investment scam known as Pentheon Venture.
“I hope PPKS can raise awareness among its members so that no one else will fall victim. Don’t easily trust investment advertisements on social media, especially Facebook,” he said.
He made these remarks after officiating the Annual General Meeting for the election of new office bearers for PPKS Saratok for the 2025-2027 term here today.
He explained that news about these crimes in newspapers, on television, and social media should serve as a warning that it is a serious matter.
Mohamad said if an advertisement seems suspicious or offers unbelievable deals, it is better to consult the authorities first for advice.
At the same event, he praised the commitment of the 145 active association members for organising various activities.
“Pensioners need to involve themselves in community activities to help maintain harmony and ensure the progress and prosperity of Sarawak,” he added.
PPKS Vice President Speri Abdul Karim, PPKS Secretary-General Subri Aman, and PPKS Saratok Unit Chairman Chamsudin Labu were also present.
