KUCHING: The public are called to beware with messages offering cash rewards by a telecommunications company.
In stating this, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) stressed that it has never issued any email or message to the public to claim any cash prizes under a bonus scheme offered by a telecommunications company.
“As a result of the monitoring carried out by the Cyber Intelligence Monitoring Network, it was found that the victim, who received such an email or message, still has an unresolved transaction with Maybank, namely as the winner of a cash prize of RM270,000 under the Family Gift Bonus TM,” it said in a statement today (Jan 7).
Furthermore, it stated that the content of the email also explains that the transaction with Maybank is legal and the victim can claim the cash without fear.
“With that, the public is reminded to always beware and not be easily deceived by emails or messages whose validity is unknown.
“Avoid giving personal details such as cards and identification numbers to unknown individuals.
“Public vigilance is important in protecting oneself from becoming a victim of fraud, theft of personal information, and other forms of crime,” it added.
Having said that, the MCMC also urged the public to immediately report the matter to the authorities, such as the police or the National Scam Response Centre (NSRC), for attention and follow-up action.
