SIBU: Marine police here foiled an attempt to illegally transport about 2,000 litres of diesel using a lorry at Jalan Sibu-Bintangor last Thursday (Feb 24).

Sarawak Marine Police Region Five commander ACP Zulfikar Mohd Ghazali revealed in a statement that a 37-year-old man was also arrested in the operation codenamed ‘Ops Kontraban’ at 7.30 pm.

The team spotted a five-tonne lorry with two intermediate bulk containers (IBCs) and stopped it for inspections.

“It led to the discovery of about 2,000 litres of diesel in the containers.

“The driver also failed to produce any documents on the ownership of the controlled goods with approval from the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP),” he said.

Zulfikar added that the total seizure value of diesel and the lorry was estimated to be around RM69,300.

The suspect and seized diesel were handed over to KPDNHEP Sibu for further action under the Control Supply Act 1961.
