KAPIT: The General Operations Force (GOF) at Tapak Megah, Kapit District foiled an attempt to smuggle 660kg of sugar to Indonesia near the Sarawak-Kalimantan border on Tuesday (August 4).

No one was arrested during the operation as the smugglers ran away.

The case was later handed over to the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) here for further action.

Chief KPDNHEP Enforcement Officer here, Al Redzamani Abdul Razak said the estimated value of the seized sugar was RM1,881.

“The case is being investigated under Section 21 of the Control of Supply Act 1961 read together with Regulation 3 (1) of the Control of Supply Regulations 1974,” he said in a statement, on Wednesday (August 5).

“We are grateful for the cooperation of the GOF which also strives to combat smuggling attempts like this,” he said.
