KUCHING: Four Bidayuh — Rozzie Milla, Dino, Ceasar and Stephanie — will perform at the Brarak & Bipajak Gawai Bisegu 2023 on June 3.
They will perform at Kampung Segu Bunuk longhouse, a popular tourist destination, at Jalan Borneo Heights in Penrissen-Padawan.
Persatuan Segu Bunuk Penrissen (PSBP) chairman Gabriel Michael Tomi said they had been specially invited to add colour and excitement to the Brarak & Bipajak Gawai Bisegu 2023.
“We want to showcase not only the Bisegu rich culture and tradition but also to promote Bidayuh talent.
“Rozzie is a Bidayuh from Serian, Ceasar from Bunuk while Dino and Stephanie are from Bau.
“We want to provide mixed activities to cater to the different age groups and at the same time promote our cultural heritage. The performance by the four will certainly be an attraction, especially to the youth,” he added.
Michael said each singer would probably belt out at least four numbers and would perform after the Gawai Parade and cultural performances at around 8pm.
Puncak Borneo MP Datuk Willie Mongin, who is also patron of PSBP, will officiate at the opening of the event.
On the parade, he said it would start at 4 pm from the Mount Barau Tourist Information Centre and end at the Kampung Segu Bunuk longhouse.
The route is estimated at 1km in distance and at least 10 contingents will be taking part in the parade, he added.
Michael said PSBP was organising the event in collaboration with the Village Security and Development Committee (JKKK) of Kampung Segu Bunuk supported by five other bisegu villages of Kampung Sumur Bunuk, Kampung Sorot Bunuk, Kampung Bratan Bunuk, Kampung Punau Bunuk and Kampung Sibatuh Bunuk.
Michael said this would be the first edition of the event and that PSBP hoped to establish it as one of its annual cultural events.
