PADAWAN: The Bidayuhs must keep their customs and culture alive, says Deputy Minister for Transport Datuk Dr Jerip Susil.

According to a Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) report, Dr Jerip said events, Gawai in particular, should be celebrated with various traditional performances and activities.

“This will help provide exposure to the younger generation so that they will also be more interested in learning and ensuring their customs live on,” he said at the Sipajak Nyibayan programme at St Paul’s Parish Bunuk church hall, Kampung Sumur Bunuk, recently.

The Mambong assemblyman added that programmes such as Sipajak Nyibayan would be able to strengthen cooperation and ties between the village heads and their respective communities.

Sipajak Nyibayan is one of the traditional customs of the Bidayuh Segu Bunuk as they close the Gawai celebration.
