SIBUTI: A sum of RM50 has been allocated by the State Government to upgrade the Internet connection in this district.
This was announced by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg during the launching of the Sejiwa Senada here yesterday morning.
“I want the people in Sibuti to have a better Internet connection so that they can do trading and making digital online payment more efficiently,” he said, adding that he would elect the contractors for the upgrading works.
With the vast growing of plantation industry in this district, Johari is hoping that good Internet connection would enable daily communication to be easier and smoother.
He explained that the State Government has always been looking at various development potentials, not only in Sibuti but Sarawak as a whole.
“For Sibuti, we will further develop the re-settlement area in Bukit Peninjau, involving some 50 hectares. We will develop the area through structured development methods,” he said.
Meanwhile Johari also announced a RM5 million allocation to upgrade the bridge linking Bekenu town to Kampung Rambai.
The bridged was completed in 2017 and the extra allocation was meant to further beautify the bridge so that it would become an iconic symbol in Bekenu.
On the flood problem which has always been haunting residents in Taman Tunku Lambir, the State Government approved an allocation of RM10 million to upgrade drainage system in the area.
“For the Taman Tunku mosque, we have allocated RM4 million,” he added.
Johari also listed the achievements of the State during his tenure, including the returning of Bakun dam and increasing the shareholdings in MLNG TIGA to 25 per cent.
At the end of the event, Johari handed over seven land compensation mock cheques and land titles to seven recipients.
He also handed out dividends for the SLDB mini estate project for the year 2016 and 2017 while 15 students from Sibuti received the Yayasan Sarawak scholarship.
“Sibuti has the potential to become a tourist attraction via its plantation industry,” he said.
Also present at the event were his wife Datin Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang, his deputy, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hassan, State Secretary Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Morshidi Abdul Ghani, State Tourism,Arts, Culture,Youth and Sport Minster Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Former Sibuti MP Datuk Ahmad Lai Bujang and his wife, former Deputy Chief Minister, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr George Chan Hong Nam and his wife Datuk Lorna Enam Muloon, Bekenu Assemblywoman Rosey Yunus, Lambir Assemblyman Ripin Lamat and the BN Sibuti candidate for GE14, Lukanisman Awang Sauni.
