KUCHING: Large crowds of visitors were seen on the first day of the Sarawak Timber & SMEs Expo 2019 being held at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK), yesterday. The expo will be on until Sunday and opens from 10am to 9pm.
Agus Hasanudin from Indonesia said he encouraged visitors, both locals and foreigners to come to the expo while it is still being held.
“It is interesting to see this exhibition and booth operators as they showcase their products with peculiar designs.
“I think this year’s expo is great and I will be here until it ends on Sunday.”
A 36-year-old broiler farmer named Tayyib Davood and his 6-year-old daughter Afareen were at the expo yesterday.
“This expo is well-planned and good in introducing Sarawak’s wood products. It shows that the state has the ability to produce, design and manufacture products in the state for export to generate revenues for the state,” Tayyib said.
A 26-year-old visitor known as Nur Azmin said that she was impressed with the product designs at this year’s expo. She was also glad that she
managed to pose for a
photograph with the Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.
“I was expecting to stay at this expo for only a few minutes but have to stay longer after I am impressed with it. I also managed to receive some gifts,” said a visitor who wanted to be known only as Robert.
Luqman Hassan and Effie Joses, both 19, who went to the expo at 3.30pm before they left an hour later said that they would return again today.
“It is difficult to find a parking space here as everyone came early,” Luqman explained.
“We did find one but we have to leave soon, but the expo definitely attracted our attention to make us want to come again tomorrow (today) in order to fully understand what is going on.”
Another visitor, Faruq Hakim said he was most fascinated by the Indonesian bamboo products booth near the Great Hall A because of their simplistic yet smooth designs.
“I would have spent on things displayed at the booth but I didn’t bring enough money,” Faruq said to New Sarawak Tribune.
He stressed that there were products he could buy for his family at Kota Samarahan.
“There are plenty of items at this expo and hopefully, the items that I want will still be around when I return,” he said.
