KUCHING: Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Latheefa Koya has confirmed that there are cases involving “big fish” personalities in Sarawak.

However, the number of cases and stage of investigation cannot be revealed, she said to reporters at the opening night of the ‘Semarak Pertiwiku’ musical theatre performance last night at the Tun Ahmad Zaidi Adruce Auditorium at the Teachers Training Institute (IPG) Batu Lintang Campus here.

“The cases are ongoing so the numbers are flexible and can range,” she said.

“Cases under investigation — we cannot reveal and provide details because that would affect our investigation,” Latheefa stated.

According to the MACC chief commissioner, the full details would only be released once the investigation is complete and if there is a prosecution.

She disclosed that there is always a time frame in relation to investigations, but the length of time required depends on the nature of the complaint.

“Not all complaints will become investigations,” she said, adding that sometimes insufficient information is provided while sometimes a lot of documents are provided but they would have to be verified first.

“Only after we verify the allegation, can we open an investigation,” Latheefa explained.
