KUCHING: International reggae band Big Mountain praises local artists and welcomes collaborations in the future.
Lead vocalist of the band, Joaquin “Quino” McWhinney, was really encouraged by the energy and excitement shown by the local artists during the first day’s performance at the Rainforest World Music Festival 2023.
He pointed out that he looks forward to having future collaborations with local artists.
“Bring it on; we’re all about the youth; we’re about promoting local talent and collaborating.
“Finding ways to make traditional music available to the mainstream”, he said in a press conference at the Damai Beach Resort, Santubong, today (June 24).
Joaquin, who plays the guitar for Big Mountain, said having future collaborations is important, and reggae music wouldn’t have been a world-wide phenomenon the way it is today.
“Today, reggae music is sung in different languages and by different cultures. That’s what keeps progress moving forward,” he added.
Joaquin encouraged the local artists to continue taking their chances by introducing new forums and ideas, just like Big Mountain did.
“We’re the perfect example of a band that took some chances; don’t hold back.
“Sometimes you make mistakes and you learn. Some people might be offended; others might be thrilled,” he said.
