KUCHING: Gabungan Parti Sarawak’s (GPS) manifesto is a pledge and commitment to ensure that Sarawak continues to be stable, developed and prosperous.
In pointing this out, GPS deputy chairman Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan explained that the manifesto focused on five main pillars which were centred on 25 thrusts.
“In this 15th general election (GE15), we want a big victory so that our voices in parliament will be stronger and we can continue to fight for our rights and interests that have been eroded either intentionally or unintentionally. This is to ensure that the rights are returned to Sarawak.
“With a big victory, we will also continue to fight to defend the rights of the people of Sarawak. The people of Sarawak have the right to obtain more allocations from the federal government for us to increase the development of infrastructure and basic facilities such as roads, bridges, water and electricity supply and telecommunication systems.”
Awang Tengah, who is also Deputy Premier, said this in his welcoming speech before the launch of the GPS manifesto at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) yesterday evening (Nov 6).
According to him, before the parliament was dissolved, GPS had 19 MPs.
One of the successes of the GPS state government, he said, was the amendment to the federal constitution which took into account the spirit of Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63)and the Inter-Governmental Committee (IGC) report.
Awang Tengah stressed that Sarawakians had the right to enjoy more modern and efficient airports and ports.
“The people of Sarawak have the right to receive better and higher quality education and health infrastructure as well as benefit from comfortable and affordable housing facilities.
“We are also entitled to a large allocation to build industrial estates and business premises to help grow small and medium enterprises.
“We want to create an ecosystem that is conducive to the development of all economic sectors, including the hydrogen economy, green economy and circular economy sectors,” he added.
Awang Tengah also called for the federal government to work together with GPS to increase economic activities and programmes to improve the standard of living of the community as well as eradicate poverty.
He added that there would be more focus on digital-based skills and talent development so that the society, especially youth, could venture into the digital-based economy.
“This is our fight and we must work together as well as unite to ensure absolute success in GE15 so that Sarawak’s future will be more secure and glorious,” he stressed.
