KUCHING: Nominating Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal as the prime minister of Malaysia is the biggest joke, said Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri James Jemut Masing.
He questioned whether former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was joking when he suggested Shafie as the prime minister-candidate and Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as deputy prime minister.
“I hope he (Dr Mahathir) was awake when he issued that statement, otherwise that suggestion is the joke of the century.
“The proposal to administer Malaysia must be done beyond a dream,” Masing said in a statement on Sunday.
The Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) president was commenting on a proposal by Dr Mahathir for Shafie to be the prime minister-candidate and Anwar as the deputy prime minister 1, with his son Mukhriz as second deputy prime minister.
Masing said Dr Mahathir knew fully well that Shafie, despite his ability as an administrator of Sabah, would not be accepted by Malayan politicians.
“Mahathir’s strategy is simple, that is if I can’t get it nor can you — referring to Anwar and the present Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin,” he said.
