SARIKEI: A high-powered motorcycle rider perished in a tragic accident with a stage bus along Sarikei-Bintangor Road around 2.40pm yesterday.
He was burnt to death when his motorcycle skidded, got trapped underneath the bus and exploded in flame.
The impact triggered an explosion that got the whole bus and motorcycle engulfed in a huge blaze.
The motorcyclist has been identified as Muhd Norhaliszam Bongsu.
State Fire and Rescue Services Department (Bomba) were summoned to the scene but by the time the firefighters came, the fire was already at its height.
Firefighters, who only had the flame completely under control about 10 minutes later, discovered the rider’s burnt body trapped under the bus.
The bus driver, a conductor, a ticketing officer and four passengers escaped unhurt.
As at press time, bomba was still investigating the case and the cause of the accident had yet to be ascertained. – sarawakvoice
