KUCHING: A 24-year-old man died after the motorcycle he was riding collided with a car along Jalan Matang.
State Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu said the impact of the collision caused Mohd Firdaus Othman to fall off his motorcycle during the 8.50pm incident on Friday.
“He sustained a severe head injury and died on the spot. The 27-year-old driver of the car was unhurt,” he said when contacted yesterday.
Initial investigations revealed that the car was heading here from Matang. As the driver approached a junction, he attempted to overtake other cars which led to the head-on-collision with the motorcyclist coming from the opposite direction.
Alexson pointed out that the motorcyclist’s body was taken to the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) mortuary.
The vehicles have also been brought to the Padawan district police headquarters for a chemistry test and Puspakom inspection.
“The case is classified under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving,” Alexson said.
