MIRI: A 68-year-old rider died in an accident involving a car and his motorcycle today (June 7).
The incident happened around 10.50am at Jalan Airport near the junction to Taman Lite Avenue.
Sarawak Traffic Police chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu said prior to the crash, both vehicles were travelling in the same direction.
“The accident occurred when the victim, riding on the left lane, suddenly veered to the right lane. The car on the right lane did not have time to hit the brakes to avoid to avoid collision.
“As a result of the crash, the victim was thrown onto the road; he was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics,” he said.
The body was taken to Miri Hospital for a post-mortem.
Alexson said the 32-year-old driver, on the other hand, escaped unscatched.
He said investigations are ongoing under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
