KUCHING: A male motorcyclist died when his high-powered bike crashed near a traffic light at Jalan Lapangan Terbang Kuching yesterday morning.

Sarawak Traffic Investigation and Enforcement chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu, in a statement yesterday, said the motorcyclist was riding his Yamaha YZF-R25 motorcycle to Kuching Sentral from BDC at midnight when the tragedy struck.

The dead man was identified as 43-year-old Steven Kana, an enforcement officer with the Sarawak Ministry of Home Affairs.

“The crash was believed to have been caused by the victim who was speeding before he lost control of the motorcycle, causing it to climb over the road shoulder and crashing into the traffic light pole.

“Steven died from serious injuries on his head, back bone and neck. He was pronounced dead at 1.40am while receiving treatment at the Sarawak General Hospital,” said Alexson.

The case was classified under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
