LUNDU: The Sarawak Department of Environment (DOE) issued compound notices to four motorcyclists for breaching the legal noise limits.
This action was part of a broader integrated operation on the Pan Borneo Highway, undertaken in collaboration with the Lundu Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division and the Kuching National Anti-Drug Agency (NADA) on February 7 and 8.
The operation’s focus extended beyond noise pollution, with authorities also examining 96 vehicles for smoke emissions as part of their environmental compliance checks.
While six motorcycles were stopped for noise level assessments, only four were found in violation and subsequently penalised under Regulation 4 (2) of the Environmental Quality (Motor Vehicle Noise) Regulations 1987. These regulations enforce strict limits on vehicle noise levels to curb environmental noise pollution.
Additionally, two vehicle owners were notified to address and rectify their vehicles’ smoke emissions after failing the preliminary tests. These owners are required to conduct a further evaluation at the Puspakom Inspection Centre to ensure compliance with environmental standards.
