KUCHING: The bill to amend Article 1(2) of the Federal Constitution will be tabled for its first reading from April 8 to 9.
Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Chong Chieng Jen said today the bill would be tabled and debated at the end of the first session during the five-week session of the Parliament Sitting in April.
Interviewed after officiating at the state-level illicit alcohol drinks awareness campaign organised by his ministry and the Confederation of Malaysian Brewers Berhad (CMBB) at Imperial Hotel, Chong added that an internal directive had been issued to all Pakatan Harapan MPs, requesting them to be present in the Parliament on April 8 and 9.
“Based on past practices, the first three weeks will be focused on the debate and the winding-up of the King’s address,” he said when asked by reporters about the bill.
The amendment seeks to change the status of Sarawak and Sabah from “state” to equal partners with the Peninsular Malaysia in the Federation of Malaysia.
“After the bill is read for the first time in the Parliament, then it will appear on paper,” Chong explained when asked if he had seen the bill on paper.
