KUCHING: The Constitution of the State of Sarawak (Amendment) Bill, 2022 has been passed with a two-thirds majority in the august House today.

State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Speaker Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar said that 67 state elected representatives (ADUNs) supported the Bill, while six opposed.

The six were from the opposition. Four government assemblymen were absent from the sitting while others remaining were absent at the time of the voting.

The Bill was tabled by the Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, which sought to change the designation and style of ‘Chief Minister’ to ‘Premier’, and ‘Assistant Minister’ to ‘Deputy Minister’.

It also sought to amend the interpretation of the ‘Federation’ in the State Constitution.
