LABUAN: In a bid to enhance tourism and strengthen economic ties within the Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East Asean Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) region, the BIMP-EAGA Business Council Labuan joined hands with LDAH Holdings Travel and Tour Sdn Bhd to promote Labuan as a premier tourist destination, with a special focus on golf and sports tourism packages aimed at attracting visitors from Brunei.
Both the council and LDAH Holdings paid a courtesy call on Deputy Malaysian High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam Nur Ezira Mahadi last week, where they expressed their commitment to boosting tourism and fostering closer relationships between Labuan and Brunei.
Leveraging these strengths, the joint effort aims to position Labuan as a must-visit destination for travellers seeking diverse experiences, ranging from serene golf retreats to exhilarating sports adventures.
BIMP-EAGA Business Council Labuan chairman Azhar Othman said one of the key highlights of the collaboration is the introduction of exclusive golf packages tailored to golf enthusiasts in Brunei.
“Labuan is home to a world-class golf course at Labuan International Golf Club (LIGC) that offers breath-taking views of the surrounding seascape, making it an ideal choice for golf aficionados looking for a memorable golfing getaway.
“The packages include rounds of golf at prestigious courses, accommodation at top-notch resorts (Tiara Hotel, Tunas Hijau eco-tourism and Melati Inn, and access to other attractions that Labuan has to offer.
“Sports enthusiasts will also find their interests catered to with specialised sports tourism packages,” he told Bernama today.
He said these packages would encompass a range of outdoor activities, such as water sports, diving, eco-adventures, and more, all set against Labuan’s stunning natural backdrop.
Azhar emphasised the importance of regional cooperation in promoting tourism and fostering economic growth.
“This collaboration between the BIMP-EAGA Business Council Labuan and LDAH Holdings Travel and Tour marks a significant step towards realising the untapped potential of Labuan’s tourism sector.
“We believe these joint efforts will not only attract more visitors from Brunei especially with its favourable exchange rate, but also strengthen the bonds of friendship between our countries,” he said.
LDAH Holdings Travel and Tour chief executive officer Noor Halim Zaini expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, saying: “Labuan’s charm lies in its diversity, and through these specially curated packages, we aim to showcase Labuan as a multifaceted destination that appeals to a wide range of interests.
“We are excited to collaborate with the BIMP-EGA Business Council Labuan to bring these experiences to travellers from Brunei,” he said.
Noor Halim said that as Labuan sets its sights on becoming a regional tourism hub, the collaboration between the BIMP-EAGA Business Council Labuan and LDAH Holdings Travel and Tour serves as a testament to the region’s determination to explore new avenues for growth, foster cross-border friendships, and create unforgettable experiences for travellers.
The joint initiative aligns perfectly with Labuan’s economic growth strategies and the broader objectives of BIMP-EAGA. By attracting more tourists and bolstering tourism-related industries, Labuan can pave the way for sustainable economic progress, creating jobs and opportunities for local communities. – BERNAMA
