KUCHING: Bintulu Hospital has become the second public hospital in Sarawak to offer percutaneous intervention facilities, following a RM1.6 million donation from Sarawak Petroleum Berhad (PETROS) to the Sarawak Heart Foundation.

The funds will be used to upgrade the hospital’s radiology angiography system to support cardiology angiography capabilities.

PETROS chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Hamid Bugo presented the cheque to Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian at the latter’s office in the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN).

Dr Sim, who is also the Minister of Public Health, Housing, and Local Government, said that the donation helped them reach their target of RM2.2 million for the upgrade.

“With this donation and upgrade, Bintulu Hospital will become the second public hospital in Sarawak — after the Sarawak Heart Centre in Kota Samarahan — to offer facilities for percutaneous intervention, especially for patients experiencing acute heart attacks,” he said in a Facebook post.

Also present were Sarawak Heart Foundation Head of the Board of Trustees Datin Patinggi Datuk Amar Jamilah Anu; PETROS Group CEO Datuk Janin Girie; Head of External Relations Sally Sheriza Ahmad; Head of Group CEO Office Andrea Jok; Senior Vice President for Human Capital and Relations Ismail Said; and Board of Trustees members Datuk Anne Teng and Pauline Kon.
