KUCHING: Bintulu MP Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing has again sought the cooperation of all parties, including business operators, to comply with standard operating procedures (SOPs) to curb the spread of Covid-19.

He said this after expressing his anger and disappointment with a business owner of an entertainment outlet and 60 individuals at Parkcity Commercial Square Phase Five, Jalan Tun Ahmad Zaidi for defying SOPs.

“In Phase Three of the National Recovery Plan, only restaurants, cafes and food premises are allowed to operate. Entertainment outlets, karaoke and nightclubs are still prohibited,” he said in a Facebook post on Monday (Aug 16).

Tiong said following the incident, police from the Bintulu Crime Investigation Department issued compounds of RM240,000 to the 60 individuals, including the owner.

“Don’t think of finding loopholes in the SOPs by gathering behind closed doors.

“I am urging operators to take seriously this matter. Violating SOPs will affect efforts to fight the pandemic.

“The fines will also be a burden to your families. Therefore, I am calling the people of Bintulu for your cooperation in complying with SOPs.”

Tiong also apologised for agreeing with the authorities to not allow premises to operate beyond 9pm as this was for the good of all.

“I want to remind everyone that Covid-19 does not spread itself but through humans who may be carriers of the virus.

“If we are disciplined, the virus will not be able to spread.”
