KUCHING: Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud has officiated at the handover of zakat amounting to RM1.8mil from Bintulu Port Authority (BPA) to Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak (TBS) for the financial year ending 2021.

The handover took place at Taib’s residence in Demak Jaya here on Friday (Feb 11).

The business zakat was handed over by BPA general manager Mizool Amir Mat Drus to Taib, who received it on behalf of TBS, during BPA’s courtesy call on him.

When met by the media after the courtesy call, Mizool said he hoped that the zakat would be used to help Muslims in Sarawak as well as help spread Islamic teachings.

Also present were Sarawak Islamic Council president Datuk Misnu Taha and TBS general manager Datuk Abang Mohd Shibli Abang Mohd Nailie.
