KUCHING: Bintulu Port aspires to be a premier green energy port to meet the demand of green and clean energy.
Bintulu Port Holdings Berhad (BPHB) group chief executive officer Ruslan Abdul Ghani said this is in line with realising the vision of the Premier in making the state an economic powerhouse as well as spearheading Malaysia towards green and clean energy.
“We realise that having a strong infrastructure, especially an efficient and well operated port would be key in achieving that vision,” he said during the Bintulu Port Media Appreciation Night at a hotel here, yesterday (Feb 27).
State Secretary Datuk Amar Abu Bakar Marzuki, who is also BPHB chairman, was present.
Meanwhile, Ruslan said Bintulu Port is the flagship of Sarawak ports, not only in terms of liquefied natural gas (LNG) export but also the largest LNG export terminal in East Asia.
“It is the biggest container terminal in East Malaysia, bigger than all of the containers handled by the total eight Sabah ports combined.
“It is the main export outlet of palm oil products for Sarawak, accounting to 95 per cent of Sarawak export at around 50 mil ton per annum in terms of tonnage.
“In terms of value/product cost, we could very well be number one, especially due to the 450 odd number of LNG vessels per year.
“My back of the envelope calculations suggested that Bintulu and Samalaju Ports combined would handle in the region of nearly half a trillion ringgit per annum worth of products,” he said.
Ruslan added that the Bintulu Port has been awarded the sole licenc to operate a full-fledged Oil and Gas Supply Base by the Ministry of Finance (MoF) and the state Customs Department in 2023, enabling them to serve offshore Sarawak, especially Bintulu waters more efficiently.
At the same event, he also presented appreciation awards to 14 media agencies.
