THE Bintulu-Samalaju Gas Pipeline project, which includes a 70-kilometre-long gas pipeline from Bintulu to the Samalaju Industrial Park, is currently in the Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Commissioning (EPCC) phase.

Utility and Telecommunication Minister Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi said the project is scheduled to commence onshore civil works in December 2024.

“The Bintulu-Samalaju Gas Pipeline Project, currently in the EPCC phase, will begin onshore civil works in December 2024.

“It will be operational by the fourth quarter of 2025,” he said in response to Iskandar Turkee (GPS-Jepak) regarding the project’s progression today (Nov 13).

Julaihi said that the Bintulu-Samalaju Gas Pipeline Project aims to connect Bintulu with Samalaju, two strategic hubs in Sarawak’s gas and energy industries.

“This infrastructure will play a significant role in facilitating the delivery of natural gas to meet industrial needs, thus strengthening the state’s energy sector,” he said.

He further explained that the project is part of the Sarawak government’s initiative to enhance the state’s energy sector, ensuring a stable and sufficient gas supply to support industrial growth and Sarawak’s economy.

Previously, Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said that the completion of the project would increase gas supply distribution to users in the Samalaju Industrial Park (SIP), including the Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) power station currently under construction.

He added that the project will bring many benefits to local residents once completed.
