BINTULU: This division is set for significant development with the Sarawak government approving the construction of a dual carriageway connecting the Bintulu-Jepak Bridge to the airport.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the matter was approved by the state Cabinet on Thursday (Nov 21).

“Apart from this, Jepak is no longer a village as we are also building houses which will be done in phases. This is to ensure the area is organised,” he said.

He said this during the ‘Majlis Tautan Kasih Gedong Permulaan Kami (GPK) 2024’ at a local hotel here last night (Nov 23).

Abang Johari, who is also Gedong assemblyman, said the development in Bintulu included the construction of Bintulu-Jepak cable-stayed bridge, resembling San Francisco’s iconic Golden Gate Bridge.

“This is among the infrastructure developments that we are doing. No other state has been able to build 16 bridges at one once.

“Back then, people didn’t believe it. They asked, ‘Can Abang Jo really do it? Where is the money coming from?’

“But we managed to do it because our economy grew and we are blessed by God with abundant resources. All we need is the knowledge to manage them wisely,” he said.

Thus, he said, it was important for Sarawakian to embrace modern knowledge, particularly as the world increasingly revolves around Artificial Intelligence (AI).

“Those who possess technology and knowledge will rule the world. If Sarawak has many skilled individuals in technology and knowledge, we can become an influential force in the region,” said Abang Johari.
