BINTULU: The Bintulu Division has been chosen to host the 2024 Sarawak Day celebration.
Food Industry, Commodity, and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom, who is also the organising chairman, said the celebration would take place at Bintulu’s Old Airport Site on July 22 at 8pm.
He said there will be five events held in conjunction with the celebration.
“On July 22 at 7am, a Fun Ride covering a 15-kilometre route will be held at Dewan Suarah Bintulu. This event will be overseen by Deputy Minister of Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development Datuk Dr Ripin Lamat.
“On the same day, at 2pm, a Townhall Session will take place at Universiti Putra Malaysia Bintulu Campus, led by the Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) and overseen by Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Datuk Sebastian Ting,” he said.
He said this during a press conference after chairing the 2024 Sarawak Day committee meeting held at Wisma Bintulu here yesterday (July 3).
Additionally, on July 20 at 10am, there will be a Thanksgiving Ceremony by Other Religions led by Unit for Other Religions (Unifor); along with another Thanksgiving Ceremony at As Syaqirin Mosque here on July 21, 6pm, led by the Sarawak Islamic Religious Department.
He also stated that the Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, and his wife, Toh Puan Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, will be the guests of honour at the celebration.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and his wife Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang are expected to attend the celebration.
The celebration is expected to draw around 10,000 participants.
Meanwhile, he added that the celebration on July 22 in Bintulu would focus on highlighting several developments and achievements of Sarawak as a region in Malaysia.
He said Sarawak’s effort in green energy development is an important contribution not only to Malaysia but the whole world in addressing climate issues.
“Therefore, the celebration this year has a bigger meaning in terms of our contribution to the world and also to Malaysia. As we celebrate together as Sarawakians, we must be proud of our achievements,” he said.
For those unable to attend in person, the Sarawak Day 2024 celebration will be broadcast live on TVS channel 122 Astro and MyTV, as well as on the Facebook page of the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS) and YouTube, UKAS Channel.
