KUALA LUMPUR: The Look of Plus Size 2019 Beauty Pageant crown went to the only Sarawakian participant, Syamim Arshad, at the grand final held in Panggung Sati, Kraf Malaysia Complex, yesterday.
The 31-year-old, who was among 20 contestants, also won the Miss Most Favourite title.
“I was being myself at the pageant. My personality and my friendliness helped me win,” she said proudly.
The beauty queen said she had never considered her body shape a problem.
Coming from Bintulu, Syamim, who sells cookies and women apparels, aims to use her position to break the stereotypes and boundaries on the perception of beauty.
“This will be the best platform for me to showcase my passion to the world.
“Most beauty pageant contests measure beauty through physical appearance, something we are exposed to, which is the Western standards of beauty.
“I hope this will help redefine the meaning,” she said to New Sarawak Tribune in an exclusive interview.
“Everyone is unique because two women aren’t same, regardless of size, shape or age. We should be proud of our bodies.”
The beauty queen won RM15,000, and a four-day three-night travel cruise to Phuket for two.
