BINTULU: The state’s third Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA)-Digital Innovation Hub (DIH) was launched here yesterday.

With the launch, local communities will embrace information technology and its role in bringing about awareness of commercialisation process.

“Ultimately, it will strengthen economic development here,” said Minister in the Chief Minister’s Office Datuk Talib Zulpilip at the launch the project.

Talib, who was representing Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, said as a working space, the DIH will provide start-ups and entrepreneurs the connection needed to achieve speedy economic growth.

“It will be the focal point of entrepreneurial activities in this town and as a prime component of the state’s eco-system,” Talib added.

On the two earlier DIH, located in Kuching and Sarikei, Talib said they have been operating more than a year and have successfully connected locals and spread entrepreneurship.

“I am confident it will work here in Bintulu,” he said, adding that Bintulu is blessed with skills workers, has the highest number of engineers and IT specialists.

“I believe they can blend well together in driving up Bintulu’s economy further and to penetrate the global market,” he said.

Also present were the State Secretary Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohd Morshidi Abdul Ghani, for Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment Assistant Minister Datuk Len Talif Salleh.
