Bintulu’s fun ride draws over 500 participants

BINTULU: More than 500 participants joined the fun ride event, a casual cycling activity, in celebration of Sarawak Day 2024 here this morning (July 22).

Deputy Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Datuk Dr Ripin Lamat praised the event’s success, noting the participation of foreign nationals.

“I see that today’s fun ride for Sarawak Day is very lively, with over 500 participants covering a distance of nearly 15 kilometres. There were also foreign nationals who participated,” he said this to reporters after joining the event today.

Dr Ripin added that the event serves as a recreational programme suitable for promoting a healthy lifestyle among the people of Sarawak.

During the event, Dr Ripin completed the ride in one hour and was awarded a medal by the Sarawak Youth and Sports Department director Lamat Nyalau.

Prior to the fun ride, an aerobics session led by instructor Siti Nor Ziema from the Ministry of Youth and Sports Bintulu.

Earlier, Food Industry, Commodity, and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom, who is also the minister-in-charge for the Sarawak Day 2024 celebration, flagged off the event at the Bintulu Civic Centre compound.

Also present were Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Datuk Sebastian Ting, Tanjung Batu assemblyman Johnny Pang, Murum assemblyman Kennedy Chukpai Ugon, and Bintulu Resident Nyurak Keti.
