AS of September 2024, Sarawak exported 13,427 kilogrammes of Raw Cleaned Edible Bird Nest (RCEBN) valued at RM154.4 million.

Minister for Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development (M-FICORD), Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom described the edible bird’s nest (EBN) sector as a growing economic driver for Sarawak.

“To date, a total of 2,184 premises including Swiftlet House, Processing plants, cave nest collection centres, service providers, traders, and exporters have been installed with Radio Frequency Identification Device (RFID) for traceability.

“In addition, 118 Swiftlet Houses have been accredited with myGap and 10 EBN processing premises with Veterinary Health Mark (VHM) or Good Veterinary
Hygiene Practices (GvHP) in order to penetrate the global market,” he said.

He said this in his ministerial winding up speech yesterday.

Thus, due to growing interest among the rural communities in swiftlet farming, Rundi said his ministry will continue to engage with Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) to enable those farming on Native Customary Right (NCR) Land to be licensed.
