BAU: The bitter experience over the last few years under the opposition has served as a wake-up call for the majority of voters in Mas Gading.
During the period, they had been deprived of many opportunities, be it social or economic due partly to failures of the elected representative to live up to his pledges during the run-up to the 2018 general election.
“So you tell me what do we do? Of course, this time around, we would gladly reject him. After all, this is democracy. We have elected you into office, but you (the incumbent) have failed to deliver.
“So what choice do we have? We have to replace you with someone else. The same applies to the new ones later, in the event he also fails to deliver.
“Otherwise, why the need to go for election and campaigning for the candidate if it’s not about electing only the best to represent us either in Parliament or the State Legislative Assembly,” said a resident of Kampung Skiat Baru, who requested to be known only as John.
Met at the launch of Showcase Kembara 76 @Skiat at Kampung Skiat Baru near here, he said it was nothing personal, but the rakyat just wanted development, which would directly and indirectly uplift their socioeconomic status and livelihood.
“Gone are the days when the rakyat just listened and be swayed by sweet talk,” said a 40-year-old labourer, who wished to be known only as Ahiang.
Earlier, Deputy Minister for Transport, Datuk Henry Harry Jinep cautioned voters against wasting their precious votes on candidates who only appeared during election time.
“We want a candidate who not only understands our needs and aspirations but is able to walk the talk.”
He appealed to voters, particularly the young and new voters, to vote for GPS candidate Lidang Disen to ensure greater development and progress in Mas Gading.
He said it was also wise of the voters to stay loyal to GPS when both state seats—Tasik Biru and Opar—are also under GPS.
That way, it would be easier for the respective elected representatives to bring about greater development to the people, he added.
“Before this, there was no co-operation between GPS assemblymen and the incumbent MP as he was from the opposition.”
On another note, Henry, who is the Tasik Biru assemblyman, said numerous projects and programmes had and would continue to be implemented for the youths.
“The projects and programmes are not merely pledges but had been implemented with many more in the pipeline. It is ongoing and not being implemented only when election approaches.”
Meanwhile, Lidang said, so far, response from voters towards GPS and himself had been encouraging.
However, he said there was no room for complacency, and he would continue to work hard to ensure victory for GPS.
He hoped the good turnout at most of the events and ceramah (campaign rallies) organised by GPS would translate into votes come Nov 19.
