KUCHING: “I am lost for words. I am so grateful to the state government for giving me the opportunity to build a house.”
These were the words of gratitude from the father of a victim who perished in last December’s CityOne Megamall gas explosion when he received a land title from the Land and Survey Department here yesterday.
The land is sited at the Stampin Resettlement Scheme.
Tchee Foh Hin, 66, received the land title from Youth and Sports Assistant Minister Datuk Snowdan Lawan, who represented the state government.
Tchee’s son, Kian Jong, was one of three victims who were killed in the explosion.
Tchee said he was happy to be able to build a house at the Stampin Resettlement Scheme.
Tchee’s home is a ramshackle house in Stampin Baru that he used to share with his late son.
Snowdan told media personnel he was moved by Tchee’s plight after visiting him with a Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) delegation recently.
GPS Youth had assisted the victim’s father with the payment of the land premium of RM2,500.
Snowdan said the movement was prepared to step in to assist Tchee to build his house should he fail to receive an allocation from Syarikat Perumahan National Berhad (SPNB) scheme.
In the December 4 incident, 40 others in the mall were injured.
Land and Survey Senior officer Thian Choon Kui, GPS Youth deputy chairman Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman and SUPP Youth chief Michael Tiang were also present at the brief handing-over ceremony.
