BELAGA: An afternoon inferno has fully devoured a 15-door longhouse block named Block F at Uma Bakah, Sungai Asap yesterday.
Aside from that, one door from Block E was slightly damaged in the fire.
Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported in the 2.20 pm incident as a total of 68 residents managed to get out to safety.
A spokesman from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firemen from Belaga station were despatched to the scene, some 91km from the station, to commence extinguishing works.
Uma Daro Liling auxiliary firemen who were also alerted of the incident, responded early to the incident and they managed to help prevent the fire from spreading to the other blocks.
As at 5.30 pm, overhaul works were still being carried out to ensure that the flames were completely extinguished.
It is understood that the entire Uma Bakah longhouse blocks had a total of 319 doors.
The cause of the fire and losses incurred are still under investigation.
