SIBU: A two-storey workers quarters was razed to the ground.  However, its occupants are safe from harm.

The State Fire and Rescue Operations Centre (Bomba) received an emergency call about a workers’ lodging was on fire at 1.53pm today.

It deployed firefighters from Sungai Merah Bomba station to the incident location at a timber factory at Jalan Sungai Bidut, it said in a statement.

“A two-storey, 15 door-workers’ quarters was completely destroyed in the blaze. The structure was not permanent therefore the fire spread very quickly and left the building in ruins.

“During the operations, there were no injuries or casualties as its occupants (15 men and one woman) were out from the building,” it said.

Firefighters used one line of hose and used water from a nearby river at the incident location.

They were able to extinguish the fire and after the team conducted inspections at the scene and deemed it safe, the operations ended 4.38pm.
