BETONG: A morning blaze destroys a grocery store and an adjoining residential house at the Nanga Tiga Layar here today.
According to a report, the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) responded swiftly to a distress call at 10.33 am on the fire incident.
“Upon arrival they found the fire had engulfed a grocery store situated within a permanent single-storey structure estimated to be 60 x 30 feet in size.
“The blaze spread rapidly, consuming both the grocery store and the adjoining residential house. Fortunately, all three occupants of the house managed to evacuate safely, and no injuries were reported,” it said.
Firefighters utilised a one-stream 400-foot delivery pump equipped with two nozzles with open water sources from nearby artificial ponds which were tapped to control and extinguish the flames.
By 11.30 am, the fire was successfully brought under control. Overhaul operations were subsequently conducted to ensure no residual sources of fire remained at the scene.
The entire fire fighting operation concluded at 1 pm and the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
