KUCHING: Malaysian Red Crescent Society has issued 2,699 certificates to celebrate blood donors.
The blood donor certificates were issued to various groups of blood donors starting with the lowest donation of 5 pints.
Chairman of the blood donation recruitment services, John Jong said that COVID-19 had disrupted blood donation in a sharp drop in 2020.
“It dropped 32.5 per cent when compared with the figures of 2019.
“However, with better control of COVID-19 we collected 21,735 pints, almost achieving an annual increase of 42.2 per cent, ” he said.
He was speaking at the Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC) office, in Jalan Reservoir on today.
Jong has credited the blood donors and their noble objectives to save lives despite the ongoing spread of COVID-19.
In addition to that, he said that the success of the blood donations showed the willingness of the blood donors to contribute towards a noble cause.
A challenge trophy was presented to 10 of the winners from various organisations.
On behalf of the Malaysian Red Crescent Society, Blood Donors Recruitment Services Sub-Committee, he took time to thank the blood donors, organising bodies and donors of gifts and food.
