KUCHING: BMX cyclists competing in SUKMA can expect a near-complete track by the end of the month, said Deputy Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development, Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu.

“We are in the final stages of construction.

“Necessary changes have been made, and we’re awaiting final installations and finishing touches,” said Rentap after visiting the BMX track venue at Bukit Siol, Petra Jaya today (July 20).

Favourable weather conditions are key to completing the track on schedule, Rentap said.

“We’re urging contractors to work diligently to ensure it’s ready for certification by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI).”

UCI certification is critical for the venue’s official use during SUKMA. While acknowledging the potential challenge of obtaining approval, Rentap expressed confidence the track would be ready for the games.

Rentap, who also serves as Chef De Mission of the Sarawak Contingent, provided positive updates on other sporting venues.

“Most are nearing completion, with minor repairs underway.”
